So one day I was walking down the street. Armed with a Canon 7d and 28mm lens, I hit East Flagler in Downtown Miami (also known as Miami's skid row). That's when we crossed paths. She was coming at me with style and grace. Her fashion was too cool to pass up a photo op. She looked at me. Damn it I was caught! She knew I was gonna snap the photo...I hate that shit. I try and stay as stealth as possible. Anyway, I said fuck it.... I was gonna get this photo! I raised my camera, placed my eye into the viewfinder and then it happened: She screamed, and not just for a pose. She screamed Bloody Mary! I clicked the shutter just as it happened. I only took one still of it. Was she crazy? Suffering from mental illness? Who knows. All I know is when I put my camera down she winked at me and smiled. Then she simply moved on.
We exchanged no words. We just shared that split second in time. I like to think she allowed me to capture her frustration. Maybe she need to release some energy and used me as a tool to do so. Either way there is something to be said about how a crossing paths with a stranger can have a lifetime impact on you. How a camera can make you interpret 250th of a second for years. When you know without the camera you would just write her off as crazy.
